Spotlight Breed -- The Bullmastiff
History
The eye-catching Bullmastiff is a fearless dog; therefore, they make for wonderful guard dogs. Additionally, they are wonderful with kids, and just like all other bully-breeds -- socialization is very important.
The Bullmastiff comes from England, and is combined with the Bulldog to make-up the Bullmastiff. The Mastiff was large and imposing, but lacked the speed and tenacity to take down poachers; conversely, the Bulldog was fast and furious but was too small to make much of a guard dog. The Bullmastiff became available by combining these two dogs. The breed is recognized by the AKC, and came into United States popularity during the 1930s.
Exercise
The Bullmastiff is not necessarily a high-energy breed. Needless to say, it's still vital to walk them. Dog-walking should be a given when it comes to a dog and their exercise routine. Bullmastiff's don't need to - nor would they really -- run until tired. They prefer the nice walk for a bit to stretch their legs and to get out there and experience!
An amazing breed that has such a look of beauty -- most dog-walkers would love to have their own!
